Via Tribunali at Downtown Throwdown and Run Vera Run this weekend!

Who knew the second weekend in October would buzz with activity from Via Tribunali? Well, it will, and the fun begins Saturday with the 5th Annual Downtown Throwdown in Pioneer Square. Basically, 30 tons of snow get dumped on Occidental Park and a bunch of professional snowboarders shred it up on some rails, barrels, and wall rides. The fun starts at Noon and goes until 5pm. Via Tribunali will dishing out hot wood fired pizza via our mobile oven. Caffe Vita will also be onsite with their espresso stand all day long. So, come on out! Make sure to stop by and support our good friends from the Service Board. tSB will have a tent and will be selling raffle tickets that can get you in on some sweet new snowboard and other prize action.

The other big event, which is very close to our hearts, is the Run Vera Run at Seward Park on Sunday. The festivities begin bright and early at 8am. Caffe Vita will be onsite from start to finish serving hot espresso drinks and Via Tribunali will be serving our neapolitan wood fired pizzas following the race to deserving race participants. Get there by 8am if you want to run in the 10K race or 4K fun run/walk. The run is a fundraiser for the Vera Project, which "is a non-profit music and arts space at Seattle Center dedicated to keeping music and art accessible to people of all ages."

Did you know that you can walk from Seattle to Snoqualmie? Join artists Susan Robb and Stokley Towles for a multi-day walk to do just that. Starting in Seattle on Friday July 23 and ending at Snoqualmie Falls on Sunday July 25, this is an opportunity for a 35+ mile adventure in ‘your big backyard.’

‘An unscripted encounter with a place we think we already know,’ as Susan describes, she and Stokley invite you to help form their band of ‘trail tramps,’ a culture that will evolve as the group walks through urban and rural neighborhoods, camps in unlikely places, swims in the Tolt River and watches art films under the stars.

A support van will carry camping gear and related items, freeing you to experience the trails and the art you and your walking cohorts will be a part of. Thanks to Via Tribunali, a generous sponsor of the event, pizzas will be provided along the trip.

The audience members become patrons of Maxine's restaurant and are treated to high-quality circus acts and hilarious clowning over the course of the evening. The waiter is riding a unicycle, the busboy can't help but juggle a few plates, and the maitre d' is tumbling down the aisles. Huntington's Disease is a devastating, hereditary, degenerative brain disorder for which there is, at present, no effective treatment or cure. HD slowly diminishes the affected individual's ability to walk, think, talk and reason. Onset of HD can occur anytime between birth and 80 years of age. The affected person experiences years of slow, painful mental and physical deterioration. Each child of an affected parent has a 50/50 risk of inheriting Huntington's Disease.

Sister company Caffe Vita and the Washington Restaurant Association Seattle Chapter present the third annual Seattle SoundBite. Via Tribunali along side twelve Seattle restaurants will sell a lineup of "street-style" bites, alongside the musical performances of the winning bands from our first online public vote which took place on the Seattle City of Music website earlier this year.

SoundBite was created along side Caffe Vita to highlight the unique relationship that restaurants and musicians share, and celebrate hard-working foodservice employees. The charities this event supports reflect a commitment to developing youth both in the music and the foodservice industries and include The Vera Project and ProStart.

Also on the evening’s menu is a special headlining performance by Seattle country-rock darlings, The Maldives (whose members work at Fuel Coffee, Conor Byrne and Tango), with Shawn Stewart of 103.7 The Mountain as MC and DJ Darek Mazzone of KEXP keeping the party going between sets.

Via Tribunali Joins Over Fifty Chefs and 100 Restaurants for Seattle Restaurant Week!

Seattle Restaurant Week descended on Seattle's Gas Works Park Tuesday, February 23rd for the filming of an online spoof video promoting the inaugural launch.

Seattle Restaurant Week, held the last two weeks of April and October, offers diners a $25 three course menu and optional $15 three course lunch, Sunday through Thursday at participating area restaurants. The promotion is open to any King County restaurant that can offer a value driven menu for $25. Seattle Restaurant Week is run by the Seattle Restaurant Cooperative, a group of local restaurateurs that have united to represent the restaurants.

A Very Public Thank You For Supporting Big Night For Abruzzo!

Thank you for supporting Big Night For Abruzzo!
The collective efforts of all our sponsors, supporters, participating restaurants and chefs raised more then $64,000 for the victims on the April, 2009 L'Aquilla earthquake. These much needed funds have been allocated to rebuild a devastated recreation sports facility that was destroyed in the quake.

This tragic earthquake hit 6.3 on the Richter scale and devastated the central Italian region of Abruzzo on April 6th 2009 @ 3:25AM, taking close to 300 lives, hospitalizing over 25,000 and displacing more than 60,000.

Proceeds have been given directly to: Polisportiva Paganica Rugby and will be used to help rebuild the sports and recreation facility lost in the devastated town of Paganica, the epicenter of the earthquake. Currently, hundreds of displaced youth in Paganica and neighboring communities have no organized sports or facilities because of the destruction resulting from the earthquake.

One candidate in the race for City Attorney is pro-nightlife. The other is not.

PETE HOLMES is who I am supporting. Pete believes that responsible business owners, operating within the boundaries of the law, should be allowed to thrive and operate without harassment. He believes in a vibrant nightlife. He is endorsed by the Seattle Times and most likely will be endorsed by the Stranger. He is a savvy attorney who will work for the people.

For the last six years he served as chairman of the City's Office of Professional Accountability Review Board -- the group that polices the police. As a result of the board's work, 29 changes were recommend AND adopted by the Seattle Police Officers' Guild. He is a graduate of Yale and the University of Virginia School of Law and would bring over 25 years of expertise in the field to this very important job.

Tom Carr, who is at the helm of the status quo currently running the City, does not deserve your vote. He runs his office with a puritanical streak. Quite simply, he hates bars and nightlife. Really.

He sees your love of music and clubs, your investment in bars and nightlife, as a nuisance to be wiped out. He was behind Operation Sobering Thought, which squandered over $50,000 of taxpayer money and arrested dozens of innocent nightlife workers, all in the name of a reckless publicity stunt; he masterminded the overt effort to shut down Neumos earlier this year; the campaign of harassment that occurred at Havana and dozens of other bars that resulted in the loss of THOUSANDS of dollars in sales and countless ruined nights out was his brainchild.

Oh, and did I mention the sudden, increased attention paid to a number of bars in the Capitol Hill neighborhood that happen to have a gay and/or lesbian clientele? He is bad. Very bad. Plus, he hates puppies.

Come out and support PETE HOLMES this Thursday, October 8, between 6 and 8 PM at Havana.

Holmes is pro-nightlife and doesn't have the vindictive streak that features so prominently in Carr's office. Holmes is a passionate defender of civil rights. The endorsements he's received so far -- combined with those he'll likely receive in the near future -- show that he's a common sense candidate. And he is definitely not Tom Carr.

We’ll be serving a five course meal paired with five wines, along with a special dessert presentation from our friends at Finamore Limoncello. The evening will be hosted by Marco D’Ambrosio, and will be filled with good times, good food, and good drink.

Virtually everything in the restaurant was directly imported from Italy, and the 100+ year old furnishings help make this one of our favorite places to host events. Havana Movie Night is Tonight!

Havana's Summer Movie Nite is now in its third year, and takes place in the parking lot leading to the club every Wednesday night in August. The entire lot will be taken over to show movies on the giant wall.

Moviegoers will be able to drink and dine outside, and a full bar is available. VIA TRIBUNALI will be on hand, cooking up their signature wood-fired pies.

Doors open at 8:00 pm, and movies begin at 9:30. Admission is $5, and attendees must be 21+ with valid ID. There is ample seating available, and patrons are encouraged to bring a blanket and sprawl out.

Via Tribunali is honored to support the Big Night For Abruzzo Dinner hosted by Armandino Batali of Salumi & Holly Smith from Cafe Juanita. Holly and Armandino will join local chefs including Sabrina Tinsley of La Spiga, Walter Pisano of Tulio, Brendan McGill of Via Tribunali, Matthew Mima of The Hunt Club @ The Sorrento and Maurizio Milazzo of Barolo in preparing a festive gala dinner at the historic Crocodile to raise funds for the victims of the April, 2009 L'Aquilla Earthquake this Thursday.

The evening will continue with a presentation by Sergio Rotellini of Polisportiva Paganica Rugby (Abruzzo) and Professor Giuseppe Leporace Italian Studies University of Washington. Dick and Sharon Friel will host a short auction and the evening will culminate in performances of famous Italian arias by Public Opera with Gino Lucchetti, Barbara Smith Jones, Eric Molgard and Victoria Chaussee (www.publicopera.org), festive song by local musicians and a DJ set of rare Italian singles by Wo-Pop DJ Darek Mazzone of KEXP.

This tragic earthquake hit 6.3 on the Richter scale and devastated the Abruzzo region of Italy on April 6th 2009 @ 3:25AM, taking close to 300 lives, hospitalizing over 25,000 and displacing more than 60,000. The L'Aquila earthquake is the deadliest earthquake to occur in Italy since 1984

Proceeds will be given directly to: Polisportiva Paganica Rugby and used to help rebuild the sports and recreation facility lost in the devastated town of Paganica, the epicenter of the earthquake. Currently, hundreds of displaced youth in Paganica and neighboring communities have no organized sports or facilities because of the destruction resulting from the earthquake.

Pizza is many things to many people, but one thing it usually is not: healthy. I blame chain-store pizza and their thick, doughy crusts, usually loaded with cheese even before the extras like pepperoni and sausage are added.

But in any pizzeria in Rome or Naples, you’ll find a dizzying array of offerings that really are healthy. The crusts are thin, often topped with seasonal vegetables, and the slices are reasonably sized. There may be cheese on top, but not more than a few ounces.

It’s not tomato season yet, but that doesn’t stop me from making a range of pizzas. They’re white pizzas — instead of tomato sauce, they’re topped with caramelized onions and fennel, or roasted peppers, or mushrooms, goat cheese, walnuts and arugula. My crust, made with half whole wheat flour, is wholesome but light, full of flavor.

This week’s pizza recipes also make for a handy way to sabotage the picky habits of vegetable-averse kids. Just tell them they’re having pizza for dinner.

Our Via Tribunali Georgetown location recently completed a retrofit of an abandoned metal workers garage next door and is now open for private dining. The long candlelit mahogany table makes for the perfect intimate atmosphere for friends and family. The space is well lit during the day with long paneled glass preserved from the original building built in 1918 which also makes for an ambient lit space at night bleeding with street light.

Via Tribunali is proud to open its doors April 16th at our new Seattle Belltown neighborhood location. The Belltown Via Tribunali location is attached to one of Seattle's most historic live music venues The Crocodile which recently reopened to much fanfare in late March. Our Belltown location features our signature Vesuvian brick oven beautifully constructed by a team of Nepalese masons, hi-backed booth seating, perfectly authentic pizzas and antipasti and remarkable live music.
